In Earthlings, the scene considers interpretations of political, ecological, and social issues through the imagery of critters’ interactions with each other. A cat in a suit is seen preparing gasoline, while a flower pot beside him is on fire. The cat in the suit represents how politicians, private enterprise, and corporations sacrifice the health of our planet for personal profit, leaving impacted communities with disease and death. The flower pot represents the community, with the inhabitants seeking refuge. A critter in a cloud throws an anvil, showing how such selfish actions may lead to bad karma.
